The Novice stage forms the beginner in the interior life of Orthodox Christianity. Through the Jesus Prayer, watchfulness of the heart, humility, spiritual warfare, repentance of thoughts, the witness of the Desert Fathers, ascetic discipline, and obedience, the student learns to turn inward and walk the narrow path with attention and reverence.
